A Memorial for a Remarkable Man

Of the notable men and women New Hampshire has given to the cause of human dignity and freedom, perhaps no other has been as accomplished yet little-known as John Gilbert Winant.

World War I fighter pilot, New Hampshire’s youngest governor, first leader of the Social Security Administration, and, perhaps most notably, U.S. ambassador to Britain during World War II, Gil Winant was a man whose heroism is today largely unsung.

A memorial to honor this remarkable man will be installed in Spring 2017 facing the New Hampshire State House in Concord.
